You're set up now, let's record something! It only takes a few taps.
Step 1: Hit record
Open the app and tap the big red record button.
- Hold your phone about an arm's length from whoever is speaking.
- When you're done, tap the stop button and choose Stop & Save.
Tip for interviews: Recording across a table? Prop your phone against something solid instead of holding it. Hand movement adds noise and can mess with your audio levels.
Step 2: Watch the health indicator
While you're recording, keep an eye on the small status pill at the top of the screen — it's your audio's best friend:
- Great reception = everything sounds great, keep going!
- Move closer = the audio is too quiet, move the phone a little nearer the source.
Catching low audio in the moment saves you a re-recording later — nobody wants that!
Step 3: Find your transcript on the web
Once you're done and your phone is online, everything syncs automatically. Here's where to find it:
- Open goodtape.io and sign in.
- Head to your archive — your new recording will be right at the top.
- If Auto transcribe was on, your transcript will be ready within a few minutes. ✨
Recording offline? No problem! The app works on planes, in basements, anywhere. Your audio saves locally and syncs as soon as you're back online.
Want to import a recording from another app? Got a voice note in WhatsApp or Apple Voice Memos? Easy!
- Open the file in the original app.
- Tap the Share icon.
- Choose Good Tape from the share menu.
Done — it'll upload and queue for transcription automatically! 🙌
