Updated July 2026: OpenAI reorganized ChatGPT's settings and moved custom connectors into a new "Plugins" flow. If you followed our older instructions and couldn't find the right menu, use the updated steps below.
Connect Good Tape to ChatGPT and start asking questions about your transcripts.
Good Tape now connects directly to ChatGPT via MCP (Model Context Protocol), so you can ask ChatGPT anything about your transcripts right from your account.
How to connect Good Tape to ChatGPT
- Enable Developer Mode. Open ChatGPT settings and turn on Developer Mode. (Note: OpenAI has moved this toggle a few times — if you don't see it under a "Connectors" or "Security" section, check under Settings → Apps & Connectors, as the exact label can vary by account type and is still being finalized on OpenAI's side.)
- Go to Plugins. Once Developer Mode is on, custom MCP connectors are now added from the Plugins area rather than a standalone "Add connector" menu.
- Add a custom MCP connector. Choose the option to add a custom/remote MCP server.
- Enter the Good Tape MCP URL. You'll find this in your Good Tape account under Settings → Integrations → MCP, or paste in: https://app.goodtape.io/mcp
- Authenticate. Log in with your Good Tape credentials when prompted to link your archive.
- Test it. Ask ChatGPT something like "Summarize my most recent transcript" to confirm the connection is working.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Developer Mode or Plugins at all. This usually means your plan doesn't support custom connectors (Free plan), or your workspace admin has restricted it. Check your plan, or contact your workspace admin.
I authenticated, but ChatGPT can't find my transcripts. Make sure the Good Tape MCP is toggled on in your Good Tape account (it's opt-in and off by default), and that you're logged into the same Good Tape account you use normally.
The menu names don't match what I'm seeing. OpenAI is actively changing this part of ChatGPT's UI. If something looks different, look for wording like "Connectors," "Plugins," or "Developer Mode" — the underlying steps (enable Developer Mode → add custom MCP → authenticate) stay the same even as menu labels shift.
