Getting your audio into Good Tape is the first step toward a perfect transcript. We’ve designed our uploader to be as flexible as possible to fit your workflow.
Supported File Formats
We support most, if not all, standard audio and video file types. We’d honestly be surprised if you found a file format we didn’t support!
Top Recommendation: If you are in doubt or having trouble, we recommend converting your file to a .mp3 or .wav for the most stable experience.
A Note on .m4a: While supported, some .m4a files can occasionally cause processing hiccups. If a file seems "stuck," converting it to .mp3 usually fixes the issue.
File Size & Length Limits
Your upload capacity depends on your plan:
Free/Casual Users: You can upload files up to 200MB per transcription.
Professional Users: Enjoy a massive increase with uploads supported up to 9000MB.
Length Tip: For files longer than 3 hours, we suggest splitting the recording into multiple parts to ensure the smoothest processing.
How to Upload Your File
Log In: Access your Good Tape account.
Click Upload: Find the upload box on your dashboard.
Select Your File: Drag and drop or browse to find your audio/video.
Choose the Language: For the best results, manually select the spoken language rather than using auto-detect.
Start Transcription: Click to begin. Processing time will vary depending on the length and audio quality of your file.
Upload & Quality Tips
To get the most accurate text from the start:
Clear Audio is Key: Ensure your recording is clear; heavy background noise or long silences can sometimes lead to AI "hallucinations" or repetitions.
Failed Upload? If you see an error, try the "Hoover" method: refresh your browser or clear your cookies/cache and try again.
Store for Editing: If you want to use our built-in audio player to listen while you edit, remember to select "store and keep audio files" during this upload step.
