When your transcript is ready, you can download it directly from the editor. Good Tape provides multiple file types to ensure you have the right format for any project.
How to Export
Open the Editor: Navigate to the transcript you wish to download.
Click Download: Locate the Download button in the top right corner of the editor interface.
Choose Your Format: A "Download as..." menu will appear, allowing you to select your preferred file type and layout.
Confirm: Click the final Download button to save the file to your device.
Supported Export Formats
For every transcription, we provide the following standard files:
Plain Text (.txt): A clean, simple version of your text without any time codes—perfect for copying quotes directly into articles or reports.
Timestamped Text (.txt / .docx): Includes time codes for every segment. This is essential for journalists and researchers who need to jump to specific moments in long recordings.
Subtitle File (.srt / .vtt): The industry standard for video editors adding captions or subtitles to their footage.
PDF (.pdf): Great for sharing a non-editable, professional-looking version of the transcript.
Customizing Your Export
Before you hit download, you can toggle several layout options to customize your file:
Show Timestamps: Toggle this on if you need time codes included in your document.
Label Speakers: Turn this on to include the names (e.g., Speaker 1, Speaker 2, or custom names) in the final export.
Pro-Tip: If you are preparing subtitles, remember to adjust your line lengths in the editor settings before exporting as an .srt file to ensure the captions flow correctly on screen.
Troubleshooting Exports
If an export fails or the file appears "broken" (e.g., it's empty or won't open):
The "Hoover" Method: Clear your browser's cookies and cache, then try the download again.
Browser Check: Ensure you are using a modern browser like Chrome or Safari for the best experience.
