Welcome to the team! Getting started with Good Tape is designed to be fast, so you can spend less time on settings and more time on your stories. Here is how to hit the ground running.
1. Create Your Account
To get started, head over to our Sign-up Page. You can join us in two ways:
Google Login: The fastest way to get started, one click and you’re in.

Email & Password: If you prefer a traditional login, just enter your email and choose a secure password.
Pro-Tip: If you are a journalist or student using a specific professional email, make sure you use that same email every time you log in to avoid accidentally creating "duplicate" free accounts.
2. Confirm Your Identity
If you signed up via email, check your inbox for a confirmation link.

Missing the email? Check your Spam or "Promotions" folder first.
Still nothing? Add yourfriends@goodtape.io to your safe senders list to ensure our "Tape Ready" notifications reach you later.
3. Essential Settings
Once logged in, you can manage your preferences in the Settings Page:
Transcription Language: You can select your language during the upload process. While we offer auto-detect, manually picking the language is highly recommended for better accuracy.
Audio Storage: In the upload panel, you can choose to store and keep your audio files. This is required if you want to use our built-in audio player to listen along while you edit.
Data Processing Agreement (DPA): If you are on a Professional plan, you can sign a DPA directly in your settings to ensure your organization's compliance.
4. Need to Find Your UserID?
If you ever need to reach out to us for help, we might ask for your UserID. This is a unique string of letters and numbers (a UUID) found at the bottom of your Settings page. Having this ready helps our team solve your issues in record time
